Sustainability is at the core of who we are and what we do. Air Products Singapore recently supported the Plant-A-Tree program under the Greening Jurong Island project to bring more green spaces to the heart of Singapore’s chemical and energy industry. Organized by the JTC Corporation (JTC), the country’s national developer of industrial infrastructure, and the National Parks Board (NParks), the project is the biggest greening initiative on the Jurong Island with 34,000 new trees to be planted by 2022.
The additional greenery will help cool the temperatures on Jurong Island, the man-made island off the south-western coast of Singapore that is an operational base for more than 100 petroleum, petrochemical and specialty chemical companies. The island is one of Asia’s biggest petrochemical hubs.
“Jurong Island is home to our major air separation plant in Singapore. We strive to bring a more eco-friendly workplace environment for our employees and communities where we operate. Our support to the project not only underscores Air Products’ commitment to the greening efforts at our home base, but also highlights our dedication to playing our part in the city-state’s sustainability endeavours,” expressed Alex Tan (pictured above), president of Southeast Asia.
The Singapore government plans to evolve the city-state from a “Garden City” to a “City in a Garden.” There are different approaches including managing waste better, investing in science and technology to create new products from waste, and adopting sustainable lifestyles.
It is a small step in our environmental journey, but every small action will have a big impact. Together we will make a difference to build a more sustainable world.
