Other gas combinations can be used in plasma arc cutting processes. Benefits vary depending on the material being cut and the plasma and shield gas being used. Argon-Hydrogen mixtures to obtain better cut quality on thicker stainless steel. Nitrogen/Argon-Hydrogen also give better metallurgical effects on thicker stainless steel.

Fuel Gas Mixtures |
There are a number of proprietary fuel gas mixtures where the active constituent consists of methylacetylene and/or propadiene. Both of these gases are very energy-rich, but explosive. For this reason, stabilizers are added, preferably propane, propylene and butane. Mixed gases containing methylacetylene and or/propadiene are the fuel gases that produce the hottest flame, next to acetylene.

Shielding Mixtures |
Air Products' shielding gases are commonly used in several welding processes, mostly MIG/MAG and TIG welding. The shielding gases protect the weld area from atmospheric gases, such as oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and water vapour. Depending on the materials being welded, these atmospheric gases can reduce the quality of the weld or make the welding process more difficult to use.

Tailor-made mixtures to weld very special materials, most of the times micro additions in argon or argon/helium base, are avaialable in the Air Products' shielding gas range.
